Our Athlete Partners

At Idaho River Sports, we’re proud to support local paddlers who share our passion for adventure, community, and river stewardship.

We’ve partnered with a few incredible athletes who not only inspire us with their skill on the water, but also capture the beauty of our local rivers through their own adventures.

In return for their support and stunning photography, we’re excited to provide them with exclusive opportunities and deals—helping them chase more river miles and share the stoke with all of us.

I'm from Cascade, Idaho. I learned how to kayak at Kelly’s Whitewater Park on the Payette River when I was a kid and have been chasing rivers ever since!

I’ve kayaked around the world, but Idaho when the snow is melting in the Spring is my favorite place I’ve paddled.

I kayak for a number of reasons, whether it’s just to get outside or to be with my friends. However, my main reason is to be able to experience these wonderful places that you can only see from the seat of your boat. Floating in a canyon that is only accessible through a kayak is a unique feeling you can’t get many other ways. Especially when you’re sharing that experience with your friends.

The boat that I enjoy paddling the most is my Dagger Rewind, with a close second to my Pyranha Scorch.

See you on the river!

Brant Smith

Originally from Boulder, Colorado, I first experienced whitewater in a IK on the middle Fork of the Salmon. Following that, I learned to kayak and began guiding in the Front Range of Colorado. A few years back, I moved to Idaho to continue guiding on the Salmon while also pushing myself on the Payettes.

I've had the chance to paddle all over the US and in Chile, but the North Fork remains my favorite river.

My favorite part about boating is the community that surrounds it. I love getting to paddle with folks from all over, especially when that involves sharing my favorite sections. It also brings me a lot of joy to help introduce people to the world of whitewater, it feels like the least I can do to pay back those who brought me in to the fold.

You'll usually find me paddling my Pyranha Scorch or Ripper 1. That said, my quiver has a little bit of everything in it!

Brant’s passion for kayaking sparked his love of photography. You can see some of his stunning shots featured right here on our website!

I am a Boise local. I started kayaking about 7 years ago after a friend took me down the Main Payette for my first time in an inflatable kayak. After learning how to roll in the pool at my college in SLC, I returned to Boise and got a summer job at Idaho River Sports. Working here allowed me to access kayak gear while I learned how to paddle on actual rivers. After several years, I started working for Bear Valley Rafting, an excellent place to work for anyone looking to kayak every day and progress on Idaho whitewater.

My favorite place I've paddled is easily the Bear River in Grace, Idaho. Bear releases always bring boaters from all over Idaho, Montana, and Utah. The river itself holds a unique combination of waves, creeking, and even some small slides. There is literally always carnage to watch and the takeout boasts the best parking lot vibes anywhere in the world.

I kayak because I love boofing and I hate traveling anywhere without an activity.

My favorite boat is the Pyranha ReactR M. At 5’11, 180lbs, the boat is surprisingly nimble and agile. It feels incredibly fast moving through waves and chop on the Payettes. When you pull a stroke off
of a wave, not only does the stern get out of your way to send your bow high, but it never gets stuck under the water, making it ideal for big wave boofs and kickflips.

Caleb Snodgrass

I moved to Boise in '01 after spending 9 years of my childhood living abroad, mostly in the Basque Country. My wife Autumn and I became enthralled with the Boise Whitewater Park in 2018, when we began learning to both surf and kayak. As has become the norm for us, she picked up on both a lot quicker than I did, and if you ask the Boise surf community I still haven't caught up (laughing emoji).

My favorite thing about surfing is a combination of the feeling I get when gliding atop the water, the connection to nature, the strenuous but delightful form of exercise, and most of all, the community. Surfers come from all walks of life, but the common love of surfing has given me countless lifelong friendships.

If I had to pick a favorite river surf wave I think I have to go with our Phase 2 wave at the Boise Whitewater park. Every river wave, natural or human engineered, has unique attributes that make for a memorable time. However, in 2025 the techs dialed Phase 2 and made it glassy, fast, steep, and like a foot taller than me! Learning to tame it came with moments of fright, frustration, and pain, but now that I can rip on it, every session has been a dream. As for the ocean, I've got to go with Bocas Del Toro, Panama. My wife and I visited in 2023, and had the time of our lives surfing the seemingly endless breaks that surrounded us while we were there.

I have yet to find a board I can call my absolute favorite, but I can't wait to update my bio when I do :)

Be sure to say hi when you see me out there!
